As part of the “Douars en vie” pilot project
The MekkiL’ Association has implemented an innovative solution for the benefit of vulnerable populations. This pilot project, launched three years ago, focuses its objectives on the education of children and young people as well as on the literacy of parents through a local approach. In this sense, the “Educalpha 200” program, which is about to be duplicated, started in 2020 in Douar Seraghna, in the rural town of Tassoultante near Marrakech, as part of the “Douars alive” pilot project. “By developing education and learning for parents in rural settings, the program strives to improve school attendance first, then academic achievement, as well as child development and fulfillment. child. The methodology can be summed up in 4 stages: the recruitment of a teacher, reception in a dedicated space in the village, literacy classes for women and remedial classes for young people (primary, middle and high school students)” , notes the same source. At this stage, nearly 70 women are taking dedicated sessions including, among other things, language, mathematics, history and geography lessons, including 2 hours of sports lessons per week. The start of the 2022 academic year thus shows more than 200 registrations, including 70 women for literacy and 132 young people for remedial courses, i.e. an attendance rate up by more than 55% compared to the previous year. For the promoters of this initiative, “duplicate this project at low cost, i.e. the salary of a teacher for 200 direct beneficiaries and apply its method to other villages would greatly contribute to encouraging education and literacy in the rural world. as well as to trigger a dynamic improving the future prospects of the inhabitants. Furthermore, young people are a State’s main asset and investing in young people means encouraging the development of skills and the national productive fabric”.
