The 5th edition of the Gnaoua Show Festival for the world will be held on September 23 and 24 at the mythical Jemaâ El Fna square, under the banner “A good successor to a good predecessor”.
Organized by the association Le Grand Atlas and the Hmitti Association for culture and artistic creation, this festival will see the participation of six troupes representing the cities of Rabat, Casablanca, Essaouira and Marrakech, led by experienced maâlems of art gnaoua, such as Aziz Baqbou, Hassan Boussou, Houssam Gania…, underlined the organizers during a press conference, held Friday in Marrakech.
“We had the idea to create this festival after the 2019 edition of the National Festival of Popular Arts. We have seen the importance of organizing a large-scale festival to celebrate Gnaoua art, an authentic art recognized by Unesco as intangible cultural heritage of humanity”, underlined Mohamed Knidiri, president of the Association Le Grand Atlas, in a statement to M24, the continuous news television channel of MAP.
“In order to preserve this popular musical genre, the Association Le Grand Atlas has sealed a partnership with the Hmitti Association for Culture and Artistic Creation in order to federate efforts to allow this festival to find a place among the major festivals. , like the Gnaoua Festival in Essaouira,” noted Mr. Knidiri.
