An international meeting on the history of the Jews of northern Morocco is organized from September 19 to 21 in Tangier, on the occasion of the creation of the Center for Research and Archives on Judaism in Northern Morocco (CJNM).
This meeting, which is held in person and by videoconference, is organized by the Council of the Jewish Community of Morocco, the Center for Judeo-Moroccan Culture (Brussels) and Dr. Aviad Moreno of Ben Gurion University (Bersheva) . It is an opportunity to shine the spotlight on the memory and the particularly rich history of the Jews in the North of the Kingdom, in addition to defining the future missions of the CJNM.
It should be recalled that this meeting is held a few days after the inauguration of the Assayag synagogue, and the opening of the “Beit Yehouda” museum space in the medina of Tangier, with the aim of rehabilitating Judeo culture. -Moroccan culture and the preservation of this component of the memory of the northern region. The program for this event also includes visits to Larache, and the synagogue and cemetery of Assilah, and meetings on collaboration between the communities of northern Morocco, the legal and material organization of the future center, and the definition of main objectives of the center, priority lines of research and a methodology for the collection of sources, archives, objects and the iconographer.
