Transforming the world’s best-selling sports coupe with a completely redesigned digital cockpit
The car brand has just presented the new Ford Mustang to its customers. Transforming the world’s best-selling sports coupe with a completely redesigned digital cockpit, new V8 engine and even more assertive styling to deliver the most fun-to-drive Mustang ever. “Mustang customers share the same mindset and passion. Whether you want a futuristic dash or old-school ’80s gauges, the new Ford Mustang offers an immersive, customizable world that will make even the most jaded driver smile,” said Jim Farley, president and CEO of Ford Motor. Company.
The Mustang legend goes far beyond the more than 10 million cars sold during its 58 years of production. “The world loves Mustang because since the launch of the latest generation in 2014, Mustang has become the world’s best-selling sports coupe every year,” according to Ford brand executives.
An athletic and assertive line
The new Coupe and Convertible take Mustang’s athletic lines to new heights with the fourth generation of its legendary 50-litre V8 delivering even better response and performance. “It’s the sportiest and most exciting Mustang to drive,” said Ed Krenz, Mustang chief engineer, noting “whether you drive it in automatic or manual, the different drive modes affect the interface digital, engine, suspension and steering parameters to provide the most demanding drivers with optimum performance both on the open road and on the circuit”.
Driver-centric, immersive digital experiences
Beneath the iconic exterior silhouette of the seventh generation Ford Mustang hides the most technologically advanced cockpit of any Mustang to date, combining the best of the past, present and future. The most notable development is the disappearance of the double-brow dashboard, which gives way to a large, floating and airy center console. Behind the new flat steering wheel, a 12.4-inch digital screen displays the various customizable screens depending on the driving modes. “We can be creative in showing the necessary driving information, while allowing the driver to decide how to display everything, from color selection to classic Mustang gauges, to simply creating a simplified screen where only the basic information appear,” said Craig Sandvig, Ford Mustang human-machine interface design manager.
An assertive modernity to attract customers
The seventh generation combines the historic style elements of the famous Pony Car with an assertive modernity in order to seduce all kinds of customers. For the first time, each model of the all-new Mustang range confirms its own personality with a specific front end allowing to choose the look that suits your own personality. The GT, for example, features larger grille openings designed to increase aerodynamic flow and thus power and performance. Aerodynamics are also optimized with the addition of new air intakes on the bonnet. “The GT features unique styling cues that affirm the Mustang performance promise,” said Christopher Walter, Mustang Design Director, adding, “The new Mustang is more sculpted and bolder than ever, building on his musculature and his unique and timeless style”.
